Only a few locales of the official builds of Firefox from Mozilla like en-US comes with a Dictionary due to license reasons so you need to install a Dictionary, say the English (British) one. Distro provided builds may be a bit different. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/language-tools/

Ignore the Language packs on the page as they are for to change the language of the User Interface or UI.

Go to this site https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... age-tools/ scroll down a bit and in the right column click on and install "British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto)" then restart browser and see if spellcheck works.

A dictionary is required for the spell checker to use to spell check words with. Only a few languages of Firefox comes with a dictionary due to licensing reasons.

Let's try again, the en-GB aka British version of Firefox does not come with a dictionary so you need to install the English (British) dictionary from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/language-tools/ which is at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary-2/

Or maybe you need some pictures for you to understand better how to install a dictionary and use the spell checker.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker

If by Languages you were looking at "Choose your preferred language for displaying pages" then that was not related to the spellchecker.

You can see what dictionaries are installed and which is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages sub menu.
