When using Firefox 63.0 (32bit). Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system.
Why does the search box and Home button and other buttons keep disappearing? They seem to be replaced with a basic tool bar. They are there at startup but when visiting some sites they disappear.

Re: Firefox search box
Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

Re: Firefox search box
Certain pop-up windows are specified with limited features, which can remove everything except the address bar and the menu button. For example, the third link on the following page will do that:
https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/popit.html
Two options:
(1) Force these kind of special popup windows into a tab instead --
See steps toward the bottom of that page
(2) Force a full toolbar on special popup windows --
(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.
(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste feat and pause while the list is filtered
(C) Double-click the dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar preference to switch the value from false to true
