Dragging/dropping boomarks doesn't work correctly

Post by Adolf Stalin »

For some reason they got "picky". For instance, if I grab the last bookmark and move it above the penultimate one to switch them, nothing happens. Three bookmarks above is OK, though, for some reason.

I have no idea what's causing this. There doesn't seem to be any pattern.

Happened in 62, still happens in 63. Happens in safe mode.

Where are you making the move:

* Library window ("Show All Bookmarks" or Ctrl+Shift+b)
* Bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl+b)
* Bookmarks menu that drops from the classic menu bar (Alt+b)
* Bookmarks menu using the optional Bookmarks Menu toolbar button
* Folder that drops from the Bookmarks Toolbar
* Somewhere else?

It is fidgety doing it on the classic menu; very easy to drop a bookmark or folder into another folder unintentionally. But I haven't noticed this part of Firefox being updated recently.

(It's difficult to compare my menu with the standard one because I use custom style rules to split it into 4 columns.)

Following this thread and wondering what this is. Alt + b does nothing on Mac and I have no idea what

Bookmarks menu that drops from the classic menu bar is.

Robert - it's the Bookmarks menu in the menubar...

File, Edit, View, History, BOOKMARKS, Tools, Help. If the menubar isn't shown, on Windows you hit the ALT key to show the menu, and then the Bookmarks menu can be expanded by hitting the letter b.

smsmith I assume it is this

Clue me in; what is the OP trying to do? I never use that drop down and as far as I know you can't rearrange the order like you can in the drop downs in the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Are you using Sync in case this makes a difference?
Does it work in other possible cases lien sidebar?

Does Safe Mode make a difference?

dickvl, not sure if your post was directed to the OP or me. If me

Don't use sync
Moving bookmarks works in the BM sidebar
Safe Mode makes no difference.

I don't use Sync.

Sidebar seems to work fine.

On Windows, the menu bar is hidden by default. It's a Microsoft platform guideline. You can activate it when it's hidden by tapping either the Alt key or the F10 function key. Pressing Alt+b drops the Bookmarks menu whether the bar is hidden or displayed.

I think I have an addon or some other config fix that keeps it visible.

Anywyay, any new ideas?
