Don't load all tabs at once?

Post by bookmarkimport »

When I try to "Open All in Tabs" from a bookmark folder, all tabs load at once. Is there a way to open all the tabs but only load if selected? Basically, the same way "Restore Previous Session" works.

Enter "about:config" (without the quotes) in the location bar and press Enter. Enter "loadinbackground" in the filter field and, if necessary, double click on the entry for "browser.tabs.loadInBackground" to set it to "false".

I changed it to false but that doesn't work!

When set to false, what this actually does is jump to the tab opened from a link via the mouse middle click or left-click open in new tab.

Maybe there is an add-on for this, or maybe not yet?

Firefox 63 added the ability for extensions to create a new tab in a "discarded" state, meaning "unloaded" or not using any resources. Someone created a demo of how it can be used to restore previous session tabs:

And then also the question as to whether bookmarks are opened the same way.

His 500 tabs does open much quicker then my 400 tabs (SeaMonkey, regular Profile, with extensions, including NoScript & uBlock), though I still open in a quite reasonable amount of time (just not as quick as his demo).
Fire 750, bring back 250.

The extension Load Background Tabs Lazily sort of does this. It caps the number of tabs to load concurrently (1-5).
