bad bookmarks can't be removed

Post by newmarket2 »

I reinstalled FF and then tried to recover everything without following instructions (my bad)

My current problem is that I have recovered all my bookmarks and favicons, but some of the entries:
still have no favicons
don't work
and can't be removed!

these entries that don't work and can't be removed
are most frequently without favicons
but some entries without favicons do work

sort of a mess

when I right click on the bookmark and go to properties, I get a window but it's not the properties window.
I can provide specifics if it would help

And, when I open all Bookmarks - there is no URL in the LOCATION column - looks like a folder not a bookmark
and, Delete doesn't work in ALL BOOKMARKS either

A screenshot might help.

that would require figuring out how to insert an image here

not easy
perhaps we can solve the problem without the image...personally, I don't think it adds anything to the diagnosis of the problem

You're not the one doing the diagnosis.

Try the link given, it's not hard to follow.

compared to other chats and fora I use, it is very cumbersome.
And, anyone can ask clarifying questions, which I'd be happy to answer.

The window: at the top says "Properties for...." and the name of the bookmark
The window has no content and doesn't display the fields you see for any working bookmark's properties
Then, there is a SAVE button which isn't active and a CANCEL button

There isn't anything else to be gleaned from this image

Anything else I can describe?
I would think the primary issue is that there are bookmarks with no properties that cannot be deleted.
And that if this has ever happened before, someone would know what happened.

But, please, ask me questions and I'd be happy to do anything to provide information

1st... the reason for off-site screen-shots is because this server is a private one and has limited resources....

2nd... Hey, I'm 74 and I can even figure it out :-" .. plus having a site to store pics is a nice thing to have around.

not saying I can't figure it out.
saying it's cumbersome and adds no value

so, if you're going to insist and not try using words, it's not that big a problem and I'll live with it.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.
In case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry "Verify Integrity"

To clarify, is this correct:

Properties is normal for all other bookmarks, it's only for the seemingly corrupted ones that Firefox won't display properties?

What method did you use to restore your bookmarks in this profile?
