OPEN too many tabs always crashs program

Post by honsbeek »

Hi ,

Latest version , no add ons

When I open many links in tabs , example JPGS . at certain points the program ALWAYS freezes .

Is there a way to prevent this or allocate more memory to this process so it doesn't crash all the time , very frustrating

Thanks for all the kind feedback in advance .

Kindly

If you can, backup your Firefox profile first.

Your user agent says you are using the 32-bit Firefox on a 64-bit computer. 32-bit Firefox has a memory limit where you can get out of memory (OOM) crashes of less than 4GB. 64-bit Firefox on the other hand can use all your memory if needed and even virtual memory to reduce the chance of OOM crashes. Since all plugins except Flash were already removed, you should be able to switch to 64-bit Firefox by just installing it with your current profile and the only difference you are likely to see is that if you had been using Flash the Flash plugin is gone. If you need Flash you can install its 64-bit version. The best way to install 64-bit Firefox is to download it, uninstall 32-bit Firefox, remove all shortcut icons that go to Firefox, and run the installer.

You can get the 64bit version here -- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

If you still have problems after switching to 64bit, more details would help folks understand what sorts of things could be at fault. For one thing, how many is "too many tabs"? Is it 4; 16; 256; 65,536; more?
How many are displaying jpgs and are those from local files or from the web?

Test firefox in safe-mode please:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tr ... -safe-mode
or
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Viewing crash reports: To view your crash reports from within Firefox:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mo ... sh-reports
Submit a link, looks like this

Code: Select all

https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/271f01...
the magic number is 51 and you are probably part of it :p

OPEN too many
How many is "too" (or is it two ;-)).

How much RAM is FF using?
How much CPU is FF using?
How many windows?
How many tabs?
Any particular sites?

Last few related crash URLs (from about:crashes)?
Fire 750, bring back 250.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.19) Gecko/20110420 SeaMonkey/2.0.14 Pinball CopyURL+ FetchTextURL FlashGot NoScript

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

It would be best of you supplied the answers to what therube asked.

And... I only have 8gig in here and was seeing some real slowdown when I was opening 10 tabs at once... I now use this addon and it has helped a lot.

As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

i have that addon installed for special purpose, but i dont see real effort (default settings). but it wont help him out loading "pictures" and freezes. i am pretty sure that firefox is slowed down from other software as me and other dont have issues like this.

A link to a page which opens many tabs with jpegs would be helpful in diagnosing. At this point it is just guesswork. We need to "see" what you are talking about.
