ESR 5.2.0, v.sticky Google cookie

Post by bawldiggle »

Duplicate of my thread I erroneously started in "Firefox General" forum ... my bad
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14821254
- received a notification dated 3 hours ago ... a reply by "mightyglydd", but nothing showing in that thread ?

------------------
Google (or mozilla) have planted a very sticky Google cookie in ESR 52.2.0.

Code: Select all
google.com
google.com Cookie Name = NID

How can I remove it permanently?
Neither the site nor the Cookie name can be removed/deleted

Please no "upgrade to Quantum"
Thank you :)

Uh-hu, but according to your UA you ARE using Quantum...
@ You just changed it from Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:60.9) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.1 Firefox/60.9 PaleMoon/28.2.2

Thanks, mozillaZine
My original thread at ... http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14821254 ... as per the notification contains nothing other than the sound of my own voice.

Everything here has gone pear shaped this morning, hardware we desperately need for an A3 printer was incorrectly supplied ...
two 32-bit RAM chips do not fit our primary AutoCad machine
Then this morning I discovered ESR 52.2.0 has been auto upgraded to ESR 60.4.0 ... and the mad scrambble to work out what has happened, and trying to meet a major contract deadline and no A3 printer and trying to figure out Quantun ESR and our missing "classic" extensions ?

The next post should really be a new thread ... but it will explain my confusion (move it if you must)

Thank you

MORE than a bad hair day ](*,)

For several months I have used Firefox v52.2.0 ESR portable (by PortableApps.com)
Yesterday I converted Fox ESR to default browser.
On system cold boot, a msg popup asked if I wanted to import passwords and cookies from Internet Explorer
Very curious ?

When I opened FF-ESR the UI was changed. Task Manager revealed Firfox was very busy. ?
The "About" dlg announced my Firefox was being UPDATED to Quantum 60.4.0 ESR ... flagrantly ignoring my preferences
My settings are still "Never Check" ... so why has Mozilla ignored my wishes-settings-preferences ?
Without a currently installed ESR 52.2.0 I cannot verify previous "Privacy & Security" settings, the 2 options in Quantum do not inspire privacy nor security.
Already from this one website (Mozillazine) I have inherited 22 unwelcome-unsolicited cookies ... Keep until they expire (the only option offered) is not a choice,

And to top it off all my passwords, bookmarks and saved cookies have gone.

What is going on ?
I suspect my denial to import Internet Explorer "stuff" triggered the ESR update
... IE is just a paperweight, as far as I am concerned, I only need it to run some VBA code for AutoCad (ancient) addons

If I sound heated, it is at Mozilla and not Mozillazine.

How do I prevent my preferences being ignored again ?
Would appreciate some help thank you :

Thank you for your interest :)
My sig panel: At last Mozillazine reflects Fox 60 (actually 60.4 ESR)
- looks like ESR 60 is based on Std.Fox 64

Firefox ESR 52.2.0 = std. stable release (non ESR) Firefox 54.x.x
New ESR releases are based on final stable std. release during the year before.

References: ... pictures, graphs and all

to name a few ... it took me 2 days to get my head around all this "stuff"

Yesterday I converted Fox ESR to default browser.
If you set "firefox.exe" to the default browser, that is no different then running "firefox" (outside of portableapps), so it would be expected to "update" (to Quantum).

Thinking you would have needed to set "firefox-portable.exe" to be your default browser.

google.com Cookie Name = NID
will follow you in ANY* firefox, because its a ONLY a flag for firefox to have updated the safe-list.

*you have to step back decades to get rid of that.
