How to stop FF 64.9 from asking if I want to update?
I DO NOT WANT TO UPDATE.
I am running FF 64.9 and a drop down box keeps asking me if I want to update.
I DO NOT.
How can I stop FF from asking me if I want to update?

There is no built-in setting. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p13244207 will do it. Also since you are on Linux, if you install and use your distro's Firefox package instead of the one from Mozilla, it may update with the distro's updater and not put up the Mozilla notices.

Which Linux OS are you using and how did you install Firefox, through the repositories, from the Mozilla site or elsewhere?
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

Re: How to stop FF 64.9 from asking if I want to update?
I use Kubuntu and I am on release 18.04.
Here's how I installed 64.9.....
I downloaded the Tar file for 64.9.
I made a directory called FF Tar.
I extracted the contents of the tar file in that directory.
I figured out that if I clicked on firefox-bin it would start FF
I made a copy of firefox-bin and put it on the desktop.
Then I moved that copy to the quick start panel.
By right clicking on that copy I could see the (not FF) icon it was using and it let me pick a new icon and I chose the FF orange ball.
Everything works fine now. The only part that is irritating is the drop down box that asks me if I want to update to 66.
I've been reading about similar situations around the net and have modified a few app.update.....selections in about:config.
It hasn't asked me in a while but the real test will be when I restart FF.
I guess I can handle being asked once a day, but I would still like it to stop asking.

There was a Firefox 64, 64.0.2, and there was a Firefox 64 beta 9. 64.9 is that a typo? Some info on installing on Linux https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/in ... efox-linux

You should be downloading the updates from the repository for Kubuntu.
If you had done this through the repository you would not be getting the notices unless you set the update manager to work automatically.
There's usually some differnences in inner connectivity and function from the local install of Firefox/
Most recent version in the Kubuntu repository should be Firefox 65 or 65.01
You should look at Kubuntu Support to see how to use apt or synaptic or whatever package manager is in use for 18.04
18.04 this is an off take from Ubuntu Bionic Beaver LTS

geez beta 9, there was beta 10/11/12/13/14, then final. guess how unready beta 9 is?
anyhow you still ignore that firefox has changed and your styles are too old to fix that, get an update but dont use any vulnerable build.

Re: How to stop FF 64.9 from asking if I want to update?
The last release version before 65.0 was 64.0.2 as you can see in the list of Firefox Releases notes on https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/P38Usul wrote:The last version before 65
64.0b9/linux-x86_64
http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/fir ... nux-x86_64/
Here is a tip. The b on the end of a version means it is on Beta channel and the number after means it is that # beta build for that version. So the 64.0b9 is the Ninth Beta build of Firefox 64.0 which was before the 64.0 Release. The last Beta build of 64.0 got up to 64.0b14 (fourteen) so the 64.0b9 (nine) is a older Beta build of 64.0.
Release < Beta (b#) < Nightly (a1) and the Developer Edition is essentially on Beta channel but with additional developer features.
If you wanted the last Firefox 64 Release then that was 64.0.2 (64.zero.two)
http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/64.0.2/
http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/ ... ux-x86_64/
Since you are using a Beta build of 64.0 it is prompting an update to the current Beta build of Firefox 66.0 which is currently 66.0b10 (10 = ten) and there can be say nine to fourteen+ Beta builds of a version.P38Usul wrote:The only part that is irritating is the drop down box that asks me if I want to update to 66.

Made a Directory called FF Tar2 and extracted it there.
Basically did what I did before with 64.09 and It works fine now.
Thanks for the tip!

Since you didn't install it from the repository, you may soon get update prompts to update to 65. But maybe your setting changes will prevent those.

Well, I managed to stop them easily enough.Brummelchen wrote:there is no setting to disable updates.
However, if all this guy is going to do is to change from a beta build to a release build then, like Arnie, he'll be back soon enough on this circular thread.
