files as bookmark is possible ->
files linked as a bookmark folder outside - never possible. its outside firefox thus could be dangerous nor is it fast or convenient to use. its a closed system.

A file path for a desktop shortcut:
C:\Alpha\Beta\Gamma\example.txt
A file url for a browser bookmark:
file:///C:/Alpha/Beta/Gamma/example.txt

Ill be more specific on what I'm trying to do: Within my sidebar bookmarks folders, I want to place a shortcut next to my bookmarks, so in the same way that clicking a bookmark brings up the associated website, clicking the shortcut will bring up the associated file.

So let's say the folder is named "Technology", then that folder can have tech websites, and also shortcuts to any of my files (or folders) on technology.

You can be as specific as you like, but you've already been advised above how to do exactly that. Now it's up to you to understand it and then do it.

Put the file/folder path into the addressbar (the browser will add the file:/// bit) and then bookmark it.
