Tab Questions--1 realistic 1 probably not

Post by markg2 »

66.0.2 64-bit

I know I've seen what I'm asking about before but now I can't find the setting. When I add tabs sometimes I need to keep a bunch in place (from one session to the next). Instead of the tabs getting smaller and smaller on a single row I know there was a way for the tabs to 'auto hard return' to a new row of tabs. I wouldn't mind a point in the right direction.

I currently have 5 tabs for two threads in the Win10 forum. I'm 99% certain there isn't a way to 'nest' tabs but that would be the perfect solution to conserve tab geography. Is there another way around this (consolidating a number of very similar tabs under 1 tab)?

UserChrome.css can give you multirow tabs , and you can multi-select tabs and move them to another row, but I think the 2nd row can only be used when the first is full. Here are two multi-row userChrome.css :
https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/commen ... nufirefox/
https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxCSS/com ... s_in_ff66/
Pinned tabs are a built in feature and have a smaller width. More information on them is here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pi ... sites-open
One extension for organizing tabs is "tree style tab" which can fold or collapse several tabs into one tree entry, but all that happens on a tab list to the left, not the normal tab bar. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... style-tab/
A built in feature lets you select several tabs with the shift or ctrl key and right click bookmark tabs, and after that you can do close tabs. That could be an alternative to tab groups for tabs that don't need history or session data.
Also there are several extensions that give some form of tab groups or tab hiding like Simple Tab Groups or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -panorama/

Thanks a lot. I needed more information and found an archived post/instructions from the fellow here with the icon of man's face.

I created the empty .css file, copied the code from Github, restarted FF and now I've got 2 rows :-).
