To avoid such issues, best is probably to start using the default-release profile and copy/migrate data from a previously used .default profile.

Sorry, but I've got to take issue with that.

So what, now when we get a FF "update", we're expect to start anew?
No, that is just flat out wrong, that is just so wrong.

(BTW, be on the lookout for a 67.0.1 [& then a 67.0.5]. Wonder what goodies they might throw in?
Isn't it frightening to know that they have known all along that there would be .1 & .5 releases.)

As the song I happen to be listening to - at the moment says, "it just doesn't matter any more".

That is exactly correct.
What's even worse is look at the reasons for the 67.0.1 release, https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6 ... easenotes/.
Now that is truly laughable .

Think I have a workaround to this issue.
Normally, when booting up in the morning, I use a macro to open FF and TB. With both open, I usually first go to TB to check my email. If there is a link in the email, I click on it and another instance of FF opens the link. So I reasoned that maybe I should just open TB, but not FF, then click an email link. Doing so freshly opens FF with the opened link. Clicking other email links now open in the already opened FF and do not open another instance of FF. Next, after closing everything, I did my usual opening on boot up. Now with both FF and TB opened, I clicked a link in TB and guess what? A new instance of FF opened with the link. Check it out.
