Add Ons

Post by Mobarobber »

I have been using Mozilla since it first popped up on the scene some years ago & I liked the ability to add addons to enhance the functionality of the browser. However, that blessing has turned into a curse as I do not have any control over the addons. Every time I boot up and start the browser, it takes up to TWO WHOLE MINUTES before the browser becomes usable. I have multiple addons for Ad Blocking (I tried reducing it to 1, but then ads kept popping up), some video downloaders, some telemetry addon, 15 to be precise. Now I don't need all 15 of them to boot up at the same time when I open the browser. Is there any way to time the add ons? Like have them turn on say 60 seconds after opening the browser? They can open in the background later.

Moving to Firefox Support Forum.

If I'm interpreting your post correctly, fifteen "telemetry" extensions sound like massive overkill. You might try creating a new profile and checking launch timing with that bare bones Firefox set up. Then add one "must have" extension at a time to see if there is one that is causing the launch delays. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

Looks that you use the Firefox version from the Ubuntu repositories.
Ubuntu may pack its version with multiple language packs and dictionaries if that is what you are referring to.
Just switch to the Firefox version from the Mozilla server to have a clean Firefox version.
