Are you trying to log into these forum?
Have you tried clearing the cache in Firefox?
Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Restart FF in Safe Mode & see if you don't get a captcha?

Started in safe mode. Still get: "You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below." and there's no captcha Does ask how many letters in Mozilla. Yes I cleared the cache.

As a test, create a new, clean Profile.
Try to log in with that.

PS:

Even a single wrong login attempt generates a, ""You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts" message.
That magical answer is, 6 (I think it was)?

Your user-agent is all over the place, Goanna, Palemoon - perhaps go ask them... or reset your user agent.

or reset your user agent.

That should be your first step to see what is going on.

This happened to me. Finally, just made up a new login/password.
Never did figure out why my old information was no longer acceptable.

FWIW I've never see a captcha here with any Fx version or profile.

If you login incorrectly (invalid un/pw), just once (is enough), in order to then log in you have to answer the "question" & the captcha.

Nope, and I've logged in incorrectly many times (including just now deliberately) on many PCs, the question yes, the captcha; never seen one.

Well, I'll be.

Typically use SeaMonkey - where I've always had a captcha request - once I've typo'd my password.
Just now, with FF, just the question, no captcha.

Maybe the board discriminates against all other then "Firefox" ;-).
(And yes, the answer to the question is, 6.)

Same here: the systems says i exceed the number of attempt and tell me to solve capcha... but no capcha anywhere
I try with my legacy browser (seamonkey), then with another one without any customisation (Firefox; used only for few website "written with feets)... and no capcha
I cllc on"i forget my password" (which is not thru, but....) and get another one so i can reach here.
Silly system
