No, I'm not using a portable version (and I did not modify omni.ja). I do have around 20 search engines though, and a similar number of extensions, some of them with complex configuration that I would need to migrate into a new profile.

Create a new, clean Profile.
Open it.
Do the icons display?
Quit.
Delete search.json.mozlz4.
Open that new profile again.
Do the icons display?
Open it.
Do the icons display?
Quit.
Delete search.json.mozlz4.
Open that new profile again.
Do the icons display?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

The JSON data contains much more detail than the summary table the page generates. How difficult it is to use that data is a different question
