Firefox use of Shift Control C

Post by bradbell »

In a gnome terminal Shift Control C is used for copy; see
https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-term ... te.html.en

In firefox it has a different purpose
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... _shortcuts

It seems to me that keyborad short cuts should use the standard for the windowing system,
and not the particular application; e.g., Control C should be a copy under windows but not
under gnome ?

Reading down further in
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... _shortcuts

One sees that in firefox Control C (Control V) is used for copy (paste).
I suppose that one has to remember that firefox uses the Windows system short cut when in other windowing systems.

I'm not sure why you would bring this up because in most applications on Linux Copy is always Ctrl+C.
The MDN article you refers to is about keyboard shortcuts for the developer tools.
The shortcuts listed there (and there are a lot) are only specific for the developer tools and not for other cases where copy is used.
as far as I know then on Linux Shift Control C for Copy instead of Ctrl+C is only used in a few cases with the terminal most prominent.
You also need to use Ctrl+Shift+Q to close the terminal instead of Ctrl+Q, so for the terminal there are a lot of exceptions.
