About every 10-14 days FF loses my bookmarks and sometimes Top Sites. It doesn't hose my Options (settings) nor history. Only Add-on is uBlock Origin, using Windows Defender.

I just updated to ver 72.0.1 today. But I want to find the .json files and try to restore bookmarks. I don't know why this happens since I purposely don't make any changes, no malware, etc.
I've read thru alot of largely older instructions. Still confused. On this page http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks 'restoring from backup' I believe means using an HTML file I saved and exported myself.

Two links later I'm on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Places.sqlite. Are my bookmarks part of this .sqlite file? I thought my bookmarks were a .json file. The 1st kb says bookmarks are also saved in .html. Are these (multiple?) also found in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ Profileorsomething ? Honestly, between http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarkbackups_folder and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox I don't know what the frick I'm looking for. "Named randomly"? Using an extension in order to find your Profiles folder?

Can't anyone create an easier to understand set of steps to find your Profiles folder & latest profile? Then post it on it's own page? Talk about getting lost in the weeds....

I already have hidden files shown. Is this where I'll find .json files that refer to bookmarks: C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder ?

Thank you,

Mac

If you can open Firefox, go to help menu, troubleshooting information, and a few lines down it will say profile folder and have an open folder button you can press, that will open your current profile. If you have multiple profiles, perhaps by accident, go to the Firefox address bar and type about:profiles. From there you can open any of the profiles folder, or run any of them or change your default.
Once you open a profile, bookmarks in the json or jsonlz4 format will be in a subfolder called bookmarkbackups. There also is the places.sqlite file, which contains bookmarks but also contains your history and is a larger file (and so harder to email to another computer).

If Firefox will not run, you will have to find it the other way. The json or jsonlz4 files will be in C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile> \ bookmarkbackups

Thank you kerft. Hopefully this will be a solution for my problem. Sorry for the late reply, crazy schedule.

Thanks again!
