I was reading re: flash player being phased out in 2020 for Mozilla.

Should we still download the latest monthly?

Will there be a replacement software acting like Flash Player for FF?

Thank you.

That is correct. Not just Mozilla, Adobe will no linger offer updates.

What latest monthly?

No there will be no replacement. Websites shouldn't be offering Flash content after 2020.

It is Adobe that will stop updating and distributing their Flash Player at the end of 2020 as they stated back in 2017 https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/ and at that point the current Mozilla Firefox web browser will not be allowing Flash anymore since the Flash Plugin will get more and more vulnerable over time due to no more security updates. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Plugins/Roadmap

Very few sites still make use of the Flash Player Plugins (from Adobe) as Flash use dropped significantly in the past few years as HTML5 players have been getting used as primary (a few may may still use Flash Plugin as secondary) for videos, audio and games.

No need to install anything to use HTML5 as it is built in Firefox and other web browsers. Only issue is for Windows if you have a N or KN edition of Windows you will need to install Media Feature Pack. For Linux you will likely need to install FFmpeg.

Perhaps the OP was asking if he/she should install the monthly updates until it's phased out completely later this year.

The answer is absolutely YES. Keep that sucker updated at all times. Incidentally, there was a security update released yesterday. I would make sure you get the latest version installed.

Flash doesn't do 'Monthly Updates', never did,I think they used to do daily ones though... :P
Use the uninstaller, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/ ... ninstaller then get it from here.

@FWIW i removed Flash over a year ago, have had no reason to install it and for the rare occasion one might need it just use another browser....

Thank you all.

I just downloaded the install .exe (thank you Tushman) and James so now I understand that HTML 5 will be built-into FF.

Is HTML 5 already built into FF or if not which version will have it built in?

Thanks again.

As I said it is a part of Firefox, for years now.

Mozilla for example had a HTML5 game demo playable in web browsers like Firefox back in early 2012 called BrowserQuest though it is no longer at browserquest.mozilla.org however there are some sites that have same or extended versions of this demo and also mobile apps versions as the code was open-source.

James – so with my ver 75 I have HTML 5 built in, correct? Meaning I don't need to update my flash player anymore, correct?

Another poster posted that I should keep updating flash player.

Thanks.

Hi ETL,
If you find that a site requires you to use Flash, then keep it updated.
It's up to the site/s to change their code as ADOBE removes the use of Flash...as noted.

Check what you have set in your Addons > Plugins section for Flash..... "Always Activate" or "Ask to Activate" or "Never"....

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

Hi LIMPET235,

I haven't been prompted for e new flash player for a while. I use FF and Brave browsers.

I have Ask to Activate set on my flash player alerts.

Thanks.
