Facebook Not Supporting Firefox?

Post by DanNJ316 »

Does anyone know why I would be getting a message when I try and log into Facebook that I'm using an unsupported browser? I'm on Firefox 68.10.0esr. Just started seeing the message today saying "We won’t support this browser soon. For a better experience, we recommend using another browser." And then when you click on the browsers that Facebook supports, Firefox is listed. This is very bizarre. I could understand if I were using an outdated version of FF.

It's likely just FB being FB and using poor browser sniffing functions. If you don't want to update to the most current version of Firefox you might try spoofing the User Agent String to make Facebook think you are up to date -- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... aswitcher/ or perhaps https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ho ... nt-firefox

Firefox 68 ESR isn't quite at its end-of-life (Sept. 21, 2020), so maybe they are giving you an early warning, or maybe they are impatient to make breaking changes.

I started seeing that same message since FB forced users to use the new interface on 01-Sep. Since then I have seen it at logout and sometimes at login. I am running 80.0.1 (64 bit) so I don't have an outdated browser. I suspect that I am seeing that message because I use FB Purity set to display the classic interface, and that is likely confusing FB's browser sniffing.

There are several FB-related extensions which have options to revert to the Classic FB interface. Basically, they change the user agent to an older version of the browser.
