I’m going to update from 52.9 to the latest ESR.
I made a backup of my profile.
I saved my “about support” page as a text file.
I took screen shots of the important preference pages.
I’m concerned about settings from NoScript and uBlock Origin getting lost.
I exported my uBlock Origin filters as a text file.
I exported NoScript as unix executable and added “.txt” to open as text file.
I have saved .webloc files to my desktop for the NoScript and uBlock add-on pages.
Those are the only two extensions I’m concerned about.
Anything else I need to do before updating?
What precautions should I take before updating? (MAC)

Just so you are aware since you appear to be using the old Mac OS X 10.9 see https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases ... and-10-11/
This means unless you use Mac OS X 10.12 or later you will only be able to run Firefox 78 Release or the 78 ESR and will likely get served the 78.0 ESR (currently at 78.2.0) on https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new/

Thanks. This old machine might not be able to handle an OS update. I'm honestly scared to update it. It's barely running now.James wrote:Just so you are aware since you appear to be using the old Mac OS X 10.9 see https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases ... and-10-11/

The download page only shows the system requirements for ESR 68, with an option to install ESR 78 (but doesn't show sys req). I guess I'll find out which one will install when I get ready to install this weekend.

Fx 68 ESR is still technically the current though 68.12.0 esr will be the last.

Sorry, I don't understand that. Is that a typo? Did you mean 68 is technically current but 78 will be the last (for this OS)?James wrote:Fx 68 ESR is still technically the current though 68.12.0 esr will be the last.

The Fx 68.0 ESR channel is still technically the current ESR as to why it is being served on Mozilla.org however the Fx 68.12.0 ESR will be the last update so when 78.3.0 ESR is released (Sept.22). The old 68.0 ESR channel will be made End Of Life or EOL with no more updates and 78.0 ESR will be the current ESR channel. Firefox 78.X.x ESR will be the last you can run on the old Mac OSX 10.9 as Firefox 79.0 and later has dropped support of OSX 10.9 to 10.11. There is a overlap with the ESR versions.
To make sure you get the 78.0 ESR go to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#pr ... esktop-esr and select the 78.2.0esr in version menu.

Note that it might still be better to update first from 52 ESR to 68 ESR as an intermediate update to ensure proper profile migration and then update from 68 ESR to 78 ESR.

Update to 68 went pretty smooth, considering. I think I'll just wait for 78 to be released.
One thing I forgot about is RSS support being removed. Wasn't really prepared to deal with that.

Yeah, I've read that same basic info in several places. I just have to decide which add-on to trust, and then learn how to use it. I'm leaning towards Feedbro since it's 'recommended' and has way more users (42,000) than all the others. Still researching though. I should have done this before updating.dickvl wrote:See:
