Cryptic alteration of "back" icon

The "back" icon in front of the locbar occasionally appears differently: the circle surrounding the arrow is boldfaced. What does this change signify?

That there is a page to go back to?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

No, therube, that's not the answer. For that condition the arrow is changed (not the circle).
