How to defeat this type blocking

Post by tnffuser »

Run into this type of website blocking more and more, mainly on news sites.
There is a dark shade over the page story, but not the mast head, one can see the story but not scroll to read.
Recently saw this trying to read a story on the Nashville bombing on Daily Beast site.
Sometimes the same site will load with this and sometimes not.
Any way to circumvent this type blockage?

That site, for me at least, sometimes has an overlay image box (with main box shaded) that offers a subscription deal. Must dismiss to read/scroll main page. Maybe something is blocking the overlay from completely loading on your visits, so it can't be dismissed.

I use a bookmarklet to remove the non-dismissible overlay on some sites.

I may have to disable a few style declarations in the Page Inspector utility to show the scrollbar.

i.e. Tools > Web Developer > Inspector (ctrl+shift+c)

Code: Select all

html {
  overflow: hidden;
  position: fixed;
}
body {
  overflow: hidden;
  position: fixed;
}
