For some time now I have had a "network.security.ports.banned.override" set using "about:config" to access the admin port of our routers and have always been able to access them. Today, however, I received the "Banned Ports..." message. I am using V85.0.2. I'm not sure when this version was installed but probably since the last time I needed to connect to a router.

The original rule shows up in "about:config". When I delete and re-enter it, it shows up but is ignored. I have tried adding the rule to "~/defaults/all.js" but this does not seem to work anymore as the rule does not show up using "about:config".

I am now having to use IE whose banned port exception still works.

This problem is the same on several machines. Is this a bug or is there a configuration issue?

Double check the port service call, see if it changed
Also, once you add an item in about:config you need to click on the blue save function.
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

I couldn't find any recent bugs about the issue. And no useful comments in the source.

Thanks for this.

I started off with a similar How To... the strange thing is every version says

" create it by right-clicking anywhere on the page..."

That dosen't work for me on any machine. I have to write the rule name into the search box, a message bar opens with the rule and Bolean, Number and String options. Selecting Number opens a new box, entering the port number and clicking the blue tick box then writes the rule which then shows up in a new "ports" search.

I can't remember which version introduced banned ports but it was some time ago. I can't remember the process I used to enter the new rule apart from using "about:config", so I assume it was similar to the one in your link. All my machines then had this rule added and access to the routers was restored, until a day or so ago.

The Mozilla developers redid the about:config page, so many doc pages write instructions for the old about:config page.

The network.security.ports.banned.override preference is a comma delimited list of port numbers.

Preference network.security.ports.banned.override

You need to create a "String" preference, not a "Number" preference.

Oops, that nailed it. Silly me!

Works perfectly with a string.

Thanks for the help
