Help deciding between v87 & ESR?

Post by cayuga »

Some background info:

I have been an advocate & loyal non-tech Firefox/Thunderbird user since the mid 2000's. Currently I'm using v84.0.2 & want to move up v87 or ESR.

My experience is in Information Mgmt with diverse businesses inc. 2 F500 companies. I don't use or need most of the bells & whistles in Firefox; maybe ESR is the way to go.

My main concern is the password function as several yrs ago when I updated FF all my current passwords where jammed up & would not update to the newer ver of FF or export my current passwords as a CSV. It was mess.

Will FF 87 or ESR import my current passwords/log-ins?
I've read/heard the ESR ver has less bells/whistles than the STD ver. Please elaborate.
Where can I find labeled screen shots of Firefox pages?

regards,

cayuga

Firefox ESR currently is based on and has the feature set of Firefox 78. Firefox 78 did not have a feature to import saved logins from a file. (However, it could import them from selected other browsers on your system.)

The next major release of Firefox ESR is expected to be based on Firefox 91, so it will have the current bells & whistles plus possibly the new Proton UI that is in development.

jscher2000,

You helped me before. Thank you very much for your response. As I mentioned in my post, I'm a long time FF; however the last few yrs it's put on a lot of weight.

Do you know of any decent browsers that allow passwords/logins to import\export CSV files. Tried FF Lockwise? app & Lastpass & could not get either to work. My experience is in info mgmt & creating solutions from my finding.

Altho I'm not a techie, at 81, wheelchair handicapped, I was able to re-layout W10 home pg to work better, faster for me. Included is a pix of my Asus gaming laptop with the mod.

OOP"s what happened to uploading an Image link & the menu bar, etc.?? I guess "a picture is worth a 1000 words" has been replaced by: "50 gallons of typed Diarrhea is worth 50 gallons of smelly yech."

Regards,

You should be able to import logins in Lockwise via a CSV file.
If importing fails then we usually advice to create (export) a sample CSV file in Lockwise and compare this with the LastPass CSV file.
Note that Firefox needs the protocol on URLs like hostname or origin fields, so if your CSV file lacks these then you will have to edit the file.
You can also temporarily set signon.debug to true and check for messages in the Browser Console.
