When I launched FireFox, a message popped up that reads: This file contains a virus or malware.
Okay, not quite true, but. I went to downloads, cleared all of them, shut down FireFox, then restarted it. Same message and the file was still showing in Downloads. (As an aside, the file no longer exists on my computer.)
I then went into <user dir>/AppData/Local and cleared out all of the FireFox file that were created today. Again, still seeing the message.
So, what on earth must I do to not see that message? I would prefer to keep virus checking turned on, but I do not want to be told if problems are found.
Thanks.

Since that warning is coming from your anti-virus, why are you looking for support with Firefox instead of the security software?

Maybe you have a page/link that downloads this file set as one on the home pages.
You can check the homepage setting in "Settings -> Home".
You can also try to use "Forget About This Site" on a history item to this website.

Re: How to make a warning message go away?
DanRaisch - Never thought about the warning's coming from the AV software. I just checked it's setting and see 'Use silent mode and turn off all pop-ups, alerts and messages' as being checked. I had never seen this notification before - maybe the computer was in an odd state...
dickvl - On the Settings->Home page, I show blank pages and nothing is checked. Good suggestion though.

That message is coming from Firefox, not the antivirus.

Maybe you could turn off the malware protection.

Is this message about Firefox ?
It is possible that there is a ADS (zone identifier) attached to the Firefox desktop shortcut that is causing this message to show.
You can check this in the "Properties -> Security" tab of the Firefox desktop.

Re: How to make a warning message go away?
Did you try?
(Where is "download history" kept these days?)
Whether something actually downloads or not, perhaps doing that will clear the loop, perhaps even allowing the item to be "deleted", removed from history? To ignore the warning and download such a file, right-click on it in the Downloads panel and select Allow Download.
