I used to be able to use a link like this ftp://address.com:portNumber/Folder/Thefile.zip
It would bring up a dialog asking to Save or Open.
However now I get
Choose an application to open the ftp link.
Google Chrome
firefox.exe
Choose other Application Choose...
Always use this application to open ftp links
Qpen Link Cancel
Firefox is selected and I do click 'always open with..." but the whole process just seems to repeat and there is No Open/Save dialog any more. The link just seems to do nothing.
The site is trusted and known and is not missing a password.
Any help sorting this much appreciated.

Re: Help requested with downloading
Try changing the protocol to http: or https: instead of ftp: and see whether that works. If the server only understands FTP, you may need an add-on to fix it.

Re: Help requested with downloading
Thanks for letting me know.
I tried "http" instead of "ftp" and a prompt asked me to confirm, then said it was getting the file - but nothing transferred.
With "https" nothing happened at all - eventually timing out.
I'm a bit out of my depth now, any idea who/where I might go for more help? ( I don't think this is a FF problem).

Re: Help requested with downloading
You could try a dedicated FTP program like FileZilla.

Tried is just that.I tried "http" instead of "ftp"
It may have (probably unlikely) or may not have (seems to be the case), worked.
So then you try an ftp extension or external ftp program.
Windows (I suppose in 10 too) has a command-line ftp program, ftp .
(It opens an "interactive" command line. Quit it with, 'quit'.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Everybody who replied knows that as TheVisitor even posted a link about it.
