Always show mute button in playing tab ?

Post by jones23 »

How do I enable the mute button to always show in addition to the "playing" label. When I open a lot of tabs the "playing" label isn't visible anymore, therefore it's hard to identify the active playing tab.

You have a few choices:

(1) Don't allow tabs to get so small, so you can still read the text. You can set browser.tabs.tabMinWidth to a higher value in about:config. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/about-co ... or-firefox

(2) Switch to Compact Mode density, and the speaker icon will replace the site icon on tabs playing audio. https://www.userchrome.org/firefox-89-s ... ompactmode

(3) Use custom CSS to hack your tabs bar, through a userChrome.css file. If you are not familiar, I have general info on my site and a tool to generate tab styling code:
(4) Forget about showing it on the tabs and use the "Tab Manager" drop-down list (the "List all tabs" icon appears at the right end of the tab bar when there are scroll buttons on the bar). It has a functional mute/unmute button for the tab(s) playing audio and use can switch to that tab or just mute it without switching.

(5) There are add-ons that list all of the tabs playing audio if you need something that works across all open windows. For example: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sound-control/ (there seems to be a bug with using it to switch tabs between windows, unfortunately, so I filed an issue)

Thank you very much !
Compact Mode density works fine for now. used this way to enable it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/co ... nd-firefox
Is the font actually smaller in compact mode or does it only appear that way ?

I will check out the custom CSS hack if i have more time or Mozilla removes the compact density mode.

Again thanks.

I don't think the font is smaller in Compact, at least judging from screenshots.
