How Do I Back Up an Addon?

Post by zlaer »

I have an addon installed that lacks a back up. Is there any way to back up all the customizations of this addon?

I would back up the complete profile.
Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5

You could take a screenshot of your addon settings.

Get formatted data output stored by addon
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14828568

about:debugging > This Firefox > Inspect button > Console tab > paste code snippet

That code snippet may be useful to save data for a particular addon.

I have an addon installed that lacks a back up.
Name (link)?

Copy the extension itself, & copy the file that contains its' settings data (which could be, storage-sync-v2.sqlite [PLUS any associated .shm & .wal files].)

(I would do that with FF closed.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

In your Profile folder.

And again, it is not solely storage-sync-v2.sqlite, but also any associated -shm & -wal files too.

See if copying those sets of files into an (otherwise) new Profile then brings up your wanted extension settings.
(You'd want FF closed when you copy them over, & presumably you'd want that nameless extension already installed.)

See if that works.

Note that you should only see -shm & -wal files while Firefox is running and thus with Firefxo closed you shouls only have storage-sync-v2.sqlite.
It is more like that this data is stored in local storage aka indexedDB (\storage\default) and best to use the about:debugging page like morat suggested above as this allow to access the storage used by an extension.

See this on how to access the profile folder:

I'm not so sure that's entirely correct (while FF is running), anymore?

Depends what you want to do.

If you want to keep a copy of the extension apart from your system, the easiest is to visit https://addons.mozilla.org, find your extension, then right-click on the button (add to firefox / remove from firefox), then save the link content on your hard disk.

If you want to keep all your extensions and configuration, the easiest is to backup your entire profile.

I just want to back up my personalized settings. But its idiotic to back up the entire profile for just one addon. I see a few answers here that are contradictory. Again how do I back up an addon's personalized settings?

The problem with add-ons is that Firefox uses a random moz-extension://[UUID] (moz-extension+++) link where each UUID is stored in a pref (extensions.webextensions.uuids) <b>about:config</b> page that changes in a new profile or prefs.js is removed.

Understood. But is it possible to replace the just the files while the UUID remains intact?

Use Hekasoft backup to backup your profile. https://www.hekasoft.com/hekasoft-backup-restore/
It works with Windows 11.

You dont understand. I can back up my profile manually without any use for software. I just want to back up one addon.
