Change default location for save as pdf? (Linux)

Post by taylorkh »

I am running FF 91.5.0esr on CentOS 7. When I "Print" to Save to PDF the default location is my home folder. I wish to change that to Desktop rather than having to set it with each print. I have found nothing in the Settings nor in about:config. Any suggestions?

TIA,

Ken

p.s. The same thing occurs with FF 96.0.1 on Linux Mint 20.2

Try the following preferences on Linux.

* print.print_to_file
* print.print_to_filename

The above preferences didn't work for me on Windows. The feature may be broken.

print.print_to_filename overwritten on opening of print prompt

P.S.

I can change the last directory to the default directory by clicking the "Clear File Explorer history" button in the "File Explorer Options" dialog on Windows.

Thank you morat,

Setting print_to_file to TRUE does default to the save as pdf choice rather than a physical printer. This is very helpful. As to the other preference... I looked and it contained the most recent file name and location to which I printed. I do notice that with the above setting the proposed name of the pdf file is based on the name of the web page. This is also good.

To be honest I have for the past several months been using Brave Browser to print news articles and other pages I wish to save. It names the file based on the name of the web page and includes working hyperlinks in the pdf. Until recently the CentOS esr version of FF did not do either of these. CentOS (RHEL) is stable but never leading edge on software. I do need to update my workstation to something more modern. Probably Linux Mint.

Thanks again,

Ken
