Restoring previous session does not function

Post by MyMozillaMy »

Hello,
After updating to FF V 100.0 (64) the "Restoring previous session" dos not function, and after FF reopen I loos all my opened tabs.
At the settings "Open previous windows and tabs" is checked. I try to remove the check, close and open FF, and recheck, dos not help.

I read this >>> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ho ... -last-time
I can't find the option of "restore previous session" option in my menu under history.

Please advice.

I have a backup of the profile, which file holds the opening tabs? I will like to restore only the tab.

Thanks in advance

If you look at either

* main menu button > History > Recently Closed Windows
* (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows

Can you restore the lost window?

It depends on whether the backup was made when Firefox was open or closed.

During your session, Firefox keeps

[profile.folder]\sessionstore-backups\recovery.jsonlz4

and

[profile.folder]\sessionstore-backups\recovery.baklz4

updated with tab changes. At shutdown, Firefox removes that file and creates

[profile.folder]\sessionstore.jsonlz4

At your next startup, that file is used to create

[profile.folder]\sessionstore-backups\previous.jsonlz4

I have a tool to extract your session from any of those files as a page of clickable links so you can find the one that is most relevant and of course to keep as a backup if you want to open any of the links manually later.

try creating a new, clean firefox profile and see if it functions properly.

you can use firefox's "profile manager" to create a new firefox profile:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pr ... x-profiles

or, you could use firefox's "refresh firefox" to create a new, clean firefox profile, instead.

some people talk about backing up firefox profiles, which also would involve importing them. i prefer starting with a new, clean firefox profile, without any tweaks which could be problematic.
find answers at "Mozilla Support":

Also make sure you do not use Private Browsing mode or use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the browsing history.

Hello,

Some updates after a few strange things.

The FF starts to work properly without any action, with only a few FF restarting (surprise).

Today the FF starts with only the last viewed tab yesterday, few restart not help.

I checked deeply and finding out
under [sessionstore-backups] recovery.jsonlz4 / recovery.baklz4 / previous.jsonlz4 and [profile] sessionstore.jsonlz4 was in very big file size 13 times bigger the normal.
After copy [profile] sessionstore.jsonlz4 from backup the FF runs properly.

I think this is a kind of bug.

Firefox includes "extra" information in the session history file such as site session cookies and form data. Maybe that is corrupting the file? You can turn off extra data. See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessi ... vacy_level
