Download Pane & Library UI no longer displays download speed

Post by Franpa »

Fixed.

How do I restore the display of this vital information? Why was it removed in the first place???

Download Speed and Download Size are no longer displayed anywhere, not even in the Download Pane.

(Come on now, do you really expect more? After all, this is "Mozilla".)

Probably something in here, Bug 726447 [meta] Theming and visual design (perhaps)?

(And of course they've got telemetry to show...)

PS: "Theming".
Maybe I'll file a bug on that ;-).

I tried downloading some podcasts. The main window download button panel and library window downloads show the download size and speed for me.

e.g. 15s left -- 26.2 of 79.8 MB (3.5 MB/sec)

Do you have the browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel pref set to true?

I often take a long windy road to my destination. Upon arrival, I wonder how I missed the shortcut.

(I wonder if I actually tried a download at the time? Can't recall?)

Might the file in question be treated as a "stream" (even thought is say, ".rar"), & maybe with that, it then doesn't know the ending file size (or something like that)?

This may be the case, I tried downloading another file and it correctly shows download size & speed. I guess they revised the messaging when it doesn't know that information and the changes they did left me confused.

You'd think it'd at least show the time elapsed, download speed & amount already downloaded even if it doesn't know the final file size.

I think the app displays the status differently when you download a file compared to when you open a file.

Ah, yeah that's eventually what I started to think as well. You'd think it'd still tell you time elapsed, download speed & amount already downloaded so that you had more to go off of than just the progress bar for activity.
