Favicon displays in tab but not bookmark?

I have just a couple of websites whose favicon is shown properly in tabs, but blank in bookmarks. (One is the tracking results on fedex.com, whereas the homepage works fine.) Why is this, and is there a fix?

I've experimented with a variety of online solutions. The page source has a <link rel="icon"> that looks right but if I load "site\favicon.ico" I get something else that looks blank. Refresh bypassing cache doesn't help. I am running Noscript and have allowed the site in question, but not everything else on it. I haven't messed with the sqlite file. This is a little thing not worth investing a lot of time in, but at least I'd like to know how simply showing a favicon would be different between tabs and bookmarks.

Try the Checkmarks 1.6.1 extension (by Paul Neulinger), it has an option to restore icons. After applying the extension, you can disable or remove it.

Very interesting. A Russian add-on highly rated but unverified by Mozilla that requires "access to data across all sites", scans for "invalid bookmarks"(?), sorts and does scads of other things I never imagined and wouldn't want, and whose description clearly states "Web extensions cannot delete invalid favicons". Спасибо, не надо.

Some of these bookmarks (like Fedex tracking) are created anew on a regular basis, so no one-time fix will work anyway, unless it's an internal Firefox setting. Let me refocus the question: how is retrieval and display of favicons in bookmarks different from display in tabs?

I tested a fedex.com url. The tab and bookmark favicons are not the same.

Maybe the problem is the fedex.com url redirects to another fedex.com url.

Thanks, could you expand on "not the same"? Are there multiple favicons on the site and how does Firefox choose (differently from other browsers?), or different ones on various pages within the site? And a site whose bookmark never displays a favicon is denverpost.com.

Just curiosity at this point...
