Why Does Black Screen With Lines Appear On Firefox?

Post by woodbine »

Bit of a strange one. I'm using my FF browser normally when suddenly
the screen turns black with short white lines dotted about.
Nothing I try can get it to work, but eventually it will start working by itself.
I can use all other functions of my desktop when this happens,
and I opened Windows Edge and it's working normally. Any ideas from the experts
what the likely cause is.

Bit of background - recently I had lots of problem with BSOD and other symptoms
and a friend diagnosed that the graphics card on the computer's mother board had
stopped working. He installed another separate graphics card in the slot for it.
Note - the graphics card wasn't new and is a basic Geforce 210. I don't do gaming,
so the performance is adequate for me. Wonder if there is poss any link between
this problem and my current fault?

Any help and advice appreciated.

You can disable hardware acceleration in FF itself (to test to see if possibly HA is the cause).
about:preferences -> General --> Performance ---> (uncheck) Use hardware acceleration when available
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Thanks for your reply and advice.

I closed FF as it was stuck on the black screen with white lines. Opened FF again straight away and it opened normally
and worked correctly. I disabled hardware acceleration as you suggested in the settings - so fingers crossed. Thanks again, will
see how I get on and if it sorts the problem.
