View Sidebar Bookmarks and CTRL+B not working.

Post by hch »

After the latest update, Nov. 17 2022, View - Sidebar - Bookmarks and also CTRL B does not work.

Anyone else having this problem?

Not seeing it here in version 107. Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Interesting. In Safe Mode, it works. I'll disable the extensions one at a time.

Thank you for replying.

I disabled the extensions one at a time and restarted Firefox, then tried CTRL B. After all extensions were disabled, still no difference. I see a thin black line on the left side of the screen.

I tried a different theme also and no luck. Then I commented out the entire userchrome.css. No difference.

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. I'll use the bookmarks bar manager for now.

Quoting dfoulkes:

-- What safe-mode does ..... Safe Mode temporarily affects the following:
* All extensions are disabled. --- * The userChrome.css and userContent.css files are ignored.
* The default theme is used, without a persona. --- * The default toolbar layout is used.
* The Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler is disabled. --- * Hardware acceleration is disabled.

-- Safe Mode has no effect on the following --
* The status of plugins is not affected.
* Custom preferences are not affected.

Try to delete xulstore.json in the profile folder.

If you have any corruption (some might be unnoticeable) in your bookmarks file it may produce unexpected results.

To clean up bookmarks (it is an HTML file) you can use Composer in SeaMonkey,
KompoZer standalone https://sourceforge.net/projects/kompozer/
Geany https://geany.en.softonic.com/download? ... gIJM_D_BwE
Tidy https://tidy.sourceforge.net/
HTML Validator online (line by line) https://validator.w3.org/
Just export to HTML, open the bookmarks.html file in any of these utilities, make any minor change (forces a refresh) and save it. I just add Kom to my file names to identify it has been cleaned by KompoZer -- I like it best.
Then delete all your bookmarks, then import from this new HTML file.
I often take a long windy road to my destination. Upon arrival, I wonder how I missed the shortcut.
