Updating to FX 108.0.1 Changed Update Settings
I updated to FX 108.0.1 through the browser. After the update, my update settings changed from "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" to "Automatically install updates (recommended)".
Is there an about:config entry I can add to my user.js file to keep this setting from changing after an update. I noticed that this also happened to Thunderbird when updating to TB 102.6.1.

That would be: app.update.auto

That pref no longer exists.dickvl wrote:That would be: app.update.auto
I guess you now have to do it through "policies" now.

I added "ManualAppUpdateOnly" as per instructions. I won't know if it works until the next update. Phalanges crossed!
--Edit--
I've discovered that the prefs for the update settings in FX and TB are stored in update-config.json here:

Re: Updating to FX 108.0.1 Changed Update Settings
The option is there, but it changed after updating FX from 108.0 to 108.0.1. I just happened to go through my settings and noticed that it changed back to "Automatically install updates". I had it set to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them". This same thing happened to TB as well.MarkRH wrote:Hmm.. I still have the option with Firefox 108.0.1.

Ahhh.. I guess I lucked out then and it did not change that setting on me. I think I got it in my head that you said the setting had been removed and couldn't be set back or something. Temporary brain fart on my end I guess.

Re: Updating to FX 108.0.1 Changed Update Settings
You can block changes to Firefox by setting policies and preferences. A policy is set in the registry in Windows 10, or in "policies.json" in Linux "/etc/firefox/policies.". Policies are read at the start of the startup process. user.js preferences are set later in the startup process.

i don't think that it is anything to worry about. sometimes settings get changed with an update.

Re: Updating to FX 108.0.1 Changed Update Settings
I updated to FX 108.0.2 today, without experiencing a change in my update settings. I guess installing the policy to FX has worked.
