It is perhaps best to leave the Extensions toolbar icon alone in long run and the extensions.unifiedExtensions.enabled about:config prefrence is due to be removed in the near future anyways.

There's no excuse for whoever to not allow us to move it to the Customize Toolbar tab. If a preference is about to be removed and someone wants to work it, then we should always be able to drag the extensions icon back onto the toolbar.

Before I update could someone clarify something for me please.

Doe this mean that all of your existing add-on icons are removed from the toolbar, and can't be put back?

I use the Bitwarden password manager all the time, so not having that icon on the toolbar would be a real pain.

And then how would I hide that?

I didn't start seeing it until today, so it is new.

To hide the overflow chevron, you need to move all buttons in its drop down list to the main Navigation Toolbar area (right-click Unpin from Overflow Menu).

To hide the new Extensions icon on the Navigation Bar, enter the following in your userChrome.css file:

Code: Select all

/* Hide the Extensions icon */

#unified-extensions-button
  { display: none !important; }

In version 108.0.2, the config preference was false by default. If you changed it to true (which I had to do), the button appeared on the toolbar after restarting Firefox.

Previously there was an Add-ons button with a similar icon that opened the about:addons page.
The new Extension button still opens the about:addons page in case you haven't installed any extensions that shows in its drop-down list, only now you can no longer customize and place this button in another position.
You will likely need this button if at some time in the future you start using Manifest V3 extension.
The new Extensions button is the only way to manage the permissions for MV3 extensions.
With current MV2 extensions you accept the permissions at installation time.
With MV3 entensions you can allow and revoke the permissions at any time for a specific origin like via the shield icon for Enhanced Tracking Protection.
