Testing extensions before version change

Post by spatz »

Hello,
As I use many extensions, it is important for me to know if they will remain operational during a Firefox version change.
Is there a way to test before installing a new version (if possible without testing extensions one by one because of quantity)?
Thank you for your reply
Sincerely

Hi,
Well...You can always create a "spare" profile as a test subject.

Just install it in a completely different directory err folder.....say > "C" > Mozilla Test profile or whatever.

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

Hello again LIMPET235
I think I didn't quite understand your solution.
You offer me an additional profile to use for my tests.
In fact I need the same profile (with the same extensions) used in 2 different Firefox: one with the old version and the other with the new version.
So, my question becomes:
- How to install 2 completely independent Firefox?
- Is it enough to install them in different directories? There will be no interference between them? Thank you for a further answer
Sincerely

Simple answer - Yes.

I currently run two copies of Firefox independently, with separate profiles, so that I have a fall back if an update breaks anything. Just specify a location for the install other than the default when installing Firefox and you will end up with two copies that wont affect each other.

I have a 2nd hard drive in my machine, so I installed my 2nd copy on that, but any directory/folder other than Program Files will ensure that it is a copy and not and overwrite. Perhaps C:\Firefox Test

I update my main copy as and when required, but I will only update the back-up copy to match when I know the main copy is working as I like it.
