firebird and default mail application problems

Post by bevelsnob »

When clicking on a mailto from within Firebird, my default mail application (Mozilla 1.5) NEVER gets triggered. Nothing happens at all.

However, I then downloaded THUNDERBIRD and have discovered that Firebird always triggers Thunderbird when a mailto is clicked on, even though Thunderbird is not my default mail application.

If I delete Thunderbird from my PC, then clicking on mailto results in nothing happening (as before).

If I go into the Mozilla 1.5 browser, and click on a mailto, my mozilla 1.5 mail application gets triggered as expected, regardless of whether Thunderbird is present on my pc or not.

If I click on a mailto from within Internet Explorer 6, if Thunderbird is on my PC, then Thunderbird gets triggered. If it is not on my PC, then Mozilla 1.5's mail app is not triggered.....rather, I get an error message:

COULD NOT PERFORM THIS OPERATION BECAUSE THE DEFAULT MAIL CLIENT IS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED.

I'd appreciate some help on this. I love Firebird, but prefer the Mozilla 1.5 mail application.

Thanks!
