Wordpress blog quit working on Firefox

Post by mitrichr »

I run a blog [see my signature]. I was running it on FF and it has stopped working on FF. Even the wordpress forum will not open on FF. On a borrowed computer it ran fine. On the borrowed computer I was able to get on the wordpress forum and seek help. I got a great deal of help but none of it worked because all of the help wanted me to use links on my own computer on which the links would not open. I ran regedit to remove FF from my computer but when I went to re-install FF the previous installation was recognized so even regedit was no help.

Is there anyone here who might be able to help me?

Did you check /settings/general/network - to make sure you haven't set the https only function?

it has stopped working on FF
And just what does that mean, "stopped working"?

When I wanted to do a blog post of FF, the post simply would not Preview, Save, Display, post, or anything else. Also, I found that the wordpress forum would not open, while all other fora opened correctly. On FF, the whole of wordpress simply stopped working. I could move to Chrome, and did and everything worked, but because of how I work Chrome is just not a good fit. I also tried SeaMonkey and there also nothing worked.

A regedit of sciencesprings was performed but when I went to re-install FF, FF saw the previous installation and just again installed something that would not work.

I am thinking about using regedit and removing all of Mozilla and thus try starting over. All of this is a great deal of work and is not taken lightly. This would remove not just FF, but also SM and TB, all of which would need to be re-installed, that is if it worked of which from the last experience I am not convinced.

What do you think of this?

Try clearing your cache and cookies for WordPress and see what happens. Cleaning out the Registry will not do anything to fix your issue. You should probably try a new clean test profile.

Clearing the cache and cookies were already done. Wordpress is no longer on the computer.
I am sorry, what is a "clean test profile"?

I copied your url for the wordpress location and placed it in the W3C Validator. use the verbose but others self explanatory.
There were:
Result: 454 Errors, 159 warning(s)
Address: The address submitted to the validator and your signature showed as http but the Validator showed it as https after the submission.
Modified: Tue, 06 Jun 2023 12:24:19 GMT
Server: nginx
Size: (undefined)
Content-Type: text/html
Encoding: utf-8
Doctype: XHTML 1.1
Root Element: html

You may have more of an issue than Firefox.

So I see what you are saying, but what do I do about it? The blog is so far running just fine in FF on two computers and in Chrome on the involved computer.
That would be fine, but Chrome is not a good fit for the way I work.

I want to have the blog work in FF on the involved computer and I do not know how to correct the problem.

If you could tell me what I need to do it would be great.

Thanks.

I found that the wordpress forum would not open
This, https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ ?

And what there is not working for you?
Nothing displays? Page displays, but the Log In button doesn't work? Log In button works, but your un/pw are not accepted? Or?

As mentioned, create a new, clean Profile & test in there.

LIMPET235-

Thanks. I will give it a shot. I will come back and let you know what happens. It may be a while, a day or two as I am very busy with my work.

LIMPET235, Sorry, what you sent me did not work. I am on Win 10 and what you sent is for earlier versions.

I tried on my own and even did a new profile which I am on and which I am told I cannot remove. That would be fine if Wordpress worked in it but it did not work.

Can I find a similar kb for Win 10?

Thanks.

@mitrichr - Go to the W3C link in the post about the error.
Put the wordpress site in the text area, check the verbose block and copy the results.
Fix your errors if a new profile does not work.
Also yu should edit your signature to reflect the https instead of the http.
It could be as simple as the site no longer works as http.

I am sorry, I went to the W3C link and tried to follow your instructions. I was completly confounded by this. This is obviously beyond my computer skills.

It should be possible for me to remove FF by "Add/Remove", completely removing all aspects of FF and then get a .exe to install FF without its looking back to a previous installation.
Why is that not possible?
