how to install a new "Firefox"

Post by mitrichr »

I want to install a fresh version of Firefox with no bookmarks, no cookies, nothing in cache, etc., bare bones. When I remove FF through Add/Remove programs and then go to my current downloaded .exe, it sees that there is a previous installation and replicates it. That is not what I want. It has problems and I want to start fresh and the build it up with bookmarks, etc.

So, how do I get a bare "bones installation"?

Uninstalling and reinstalling the application itself has absolutely no impact on your Profile, which is where saved preferences like your home page, bookmarks and user selected settings reside. That's why Firefox finds that old data when you relaunch.

You don't even need to uninstall to accomplish what you want. Just create a new profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

Please refer to the following links.
(You didn't deal with the Profile.)

You will have to perform a little house keeping with the new installation.
Why? Because, if you don't remove/delete the Profile, it will have all your prefs/bookmarks etc., etc., installed as well.

There's also this.....if you want to try running two versions at the same time....

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)
