Company Use: Diaable some Functions

Post by Peter.Plueck »

Hi,

I am thinking about a company use. Because of our security policy, I need to disable some functions for some users. How can I disable the download function and the (or part of the) edit preferences functions for example?

Thanks a lot for your answer

Best regards

Take a look at this tutorial http://tln.lib.mi.us/~amutch/pro/phoenix/kiosk.htm on how to modify Firebird to use as a kiosk. It states it doesn't prevent downloading, but should let you disable many features. I found the link to it at http://texturizer.net/firebird/tips.html#oth_kiosk

I guess you could experiment with remapping the MIME types as needed to make downloading a wasted effort (using the things they left out extension), and then disable the ability to remap the MIME types.

If you can't get Firebird to do what you want, Opera also supports a kiosk mode . http://www.opera.com/support/mastering/kiosk/

Disable Download and other functions

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Do you see a chance to disable downloads by disable (or auto answer) the download dialog and/or stream the download data to the nul device?
