Firebird not showing pound signs

when viewing certain sites, whenever people post a £ sign followed by a number it doesnt get shown correctly, i just get a little question mark sign. a good example is this page:

any ideas? is this just me or firebird in general?

View | Character coding

Character encoding, not language. Western (ISO-8859-1) or UTF8 Unicode are common for western pages.
