At the top of my head, two things you maybe doing wrong:

1) you tried this with Firebird already running
2) You didn't install Firebird in the same folder as this example

I opened a dos command window in my Firebird directory ( with Firebird closed) and simply typed Mozillafirebird.exe -p and hit enter and it brought up the profile manager immediately. Using XP Pro. I use a powertoy to open a command window in any folder with a right click and choosing command window here. I think I got it at Microsoft. Good luck.

destination of firebird...

"C:\downloads\Mozilla Firebird browser -0.6.1-win32\MozillaFirebird"

is this where it should be ?

also dos prompt with or without capital p did not work.
