when going to a site (any site, like google or mozilla site) in Firebird the website's fonts are all 'standard' fonts with serifs, even if the site's source specifies arial or other sans-serif fonts.
going to the same sites in IE gives a much nicer look and feel because the right fonts are shown by the browser
any suggestions?

FB should respect all font settings on a page. Might you accidentally have enabled "always use my fonts" in your font settings for FB?
If that setting is off and there's still a problem, does it happen on all sites that specify fonts or just a few in particular?
