Alice: is it possible to find <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/d9c2fe33" title="Macromedia - Flash Player TechNote : Flash Player upgrade for operating systems that do not support Flash Player 8 "><u>that site</u></a> via the Macromedia search? (what search terms)
There are archives of older versions, but not yet for the SWF 8 release.

I'm having a strange problem that sometimes on flash images nothing happens when I click a button. It does work when I right-click to open th context menu and with that menu still open click the button.
I haven't investigate that yet, but maybe you have some ideas about that.
(?Related to this: Internet Explorer displays a box around Flash content)

I know SWF 7r63 is also available here: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html#Shockwave

Get the updated Flash Player 7 at http://www.macromedia.com/go/d9c2fe33 as Alice suggested, instead of the link I gave

That page is linked from the "APSB06-03 Flash Player security bulletin that can be found listed on Macromedia's Security Bulletins page. I couldn't come up with that specific Flash Player TechNote either, using Macromedia's basic search or the KB guided search. The best I could do was bring up the security bulletin that contained the link to that page. Searching on "TechNote" in "Flash Player" (KB guided search) I came up with this list of 200 entries. Narrowing the search within the results for "Flash Player 7" didn't come up with it either.

You'll have to give me a URL and what OS and browser you're using when you see that problem.

I saw that issue listed here: http://www.fullasagoog.com/index.cfm?blogid=300 (from Kyle26's post... A pretty good collection of Macromedia Flash issues). That article links to Macromedia – Active Content Developer Center : FAQ and the Internet Explorer ActiveX update article which applies to Windows Xp sp2. I never upgraded... I'm still running WinXP sp1 plus I rarely use Internet Explorer. (I also saw an older article on WinXPsp2/IE/Flash issues on that list of 200 TechNotes: Macromedia - Flash Player TechNote : Flash Player content does not appear after a Windows Update)

I just checked PluginDoc's Flash download section and I see that 7.0.r63 download is there now (it wasn't when I last checked). The updated Flash 7.0.r63 download is also in the Macromedia Flash - MozillaZine KB article.

I'm also still on SP1 so it also seems to apply to SP1 . I had just tried the procedure from that article after I came accross another question about flash and can confirm that it works.
Earlier the keys on this site didn't work: http://www.adobe.com/stories/main.html
That was also a link from a question.

I was a bit clumsy and wanted to quote my own post, but apparently clicked the edit button. So I messed up my previous post and had to use the back button to undo/restore and by doing lost my new message :(
In the mean time you had answered my post.

To resolve this issue, delete the support folder that Central 1.0 creates in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\#SharedObjects\<random folder>\macromedia.com\support

I also took the opportunity to cleanup the #SharedObjects folder.

I'm also still on SP1 so it also seems to apply to SP1 .

I looked over the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-013: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (912812) which was just released on April 11th, which I installed. It seems that the IE ActiveX update kb912945 was incorporated into this latest IE Cumulative update which also applies to WinXPsp1, so, you're right :) :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... 6-013.mspx
This security update also replaces the cumulative update for Internet Explorer that was released for Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition family, and Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 for Itanium-based Systems on February 28, 2006. This update was discussed in Microsoft Security Advisory (912945): Non-Security Update for Internet Explorer. For more information about this update, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 912945.
<snip>
Does this update contain the modifications detailed in Microsoft Security Advisory 912945 – Non-Security Update for Internet Explorer?
Yes, this security update contains the Internet Explorer Active X update previously released and discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 912945.

I'll keep it in mind if I notice problems with ActiveX content on Internet Explorer.

Well I've been watching this therad closely and thanks everyone who has been participating.

However, my issue persists. Still getting the Shockwave Flash error message reccomeding I shut Firefox down. I've been using MySpace profiles as test sites after each would-be fix.

I've probably done each of these things in lots of different combinations about three to four times:

I've uninstalled every file that had to do with Firefox and Mozilla off of my computer and resintalled. I got rid of themes, plugins and everything else like folders and the like. Completely removed all traces of it.

I've uninstalled and resinstalled the latest version. of Flash (had to end process on Killbrowser.exe)

I've moved the two or three Shockwave files out of Mozilla/plugins.

I've done it all. No luck.

Anyone found a fix for this?

...and removed all possible Java and Flash duplicate/conflicting/overlapping instances (earlier in my quest to fix teh problem)

...and (after uninstalling) reinstalled Flash from both the prompt to do so in Firefox AND the Flash website.

I've spend about four hours on this problem in two different days about a week apart.

I'm usually pretty good with this kind of thing. I mean, I even removed SpySherriff from my computer once! That is a feat in itself.

Oh and one more thing. After I do a reinstall from the Flash website its like Firefox won't recognize it. I have to install it from the prompt I get to do so when Firefox runs across something that requires Flash. Without doing that a lot of things won't show up in my browser. Once I install from the "Install Missing Plugins" prompt I can see Flash objects and then the fun errors begin.

I was getting the same error messages

Illegal Operation In Plug-In

? Shockwave Flash

I ended up removing Flash 8 manually and then re-installing Flash 7

Now I don't get those error messages. However It's not the latest and greatest so I don't know what features are missing. I'll wait until Adobe figures out what's wrong.

I found it here.

I've also had this error using firefox on my other computer. The error come up when loading some games and also in youtube videos. As kevin said, I uninstalled flashplayer and installed flash 7 and now it works perfectly... version 8 seems to have been the problem for me too.
