Shockwave Flash error

I had the same problem with Macromedia Shockwave error everytime I lauched firefox. The problem persisted for several month. I tried every recommendation on this site and nothing fixed it. Last week for a different reason I upgraded the Norton Antivirus with the Norton Internet security and the problem is gone. Norton removed several Adware and Spyware files. Not sure which one was causing the problem.

Re: Shockwave Flash error FIX
Kyle26 wrote:It's quite simple really. There is a bug in Macromedia Flash Player 8 that causes this Shockwave Flash error to happen. http://casario.blogs.com/mmworld/2005/1 ... stall.html tells you more about it. Other issues with Macromedia Flash Player 8 can be found at http://www.fullasagoog.com/index.cfm?blogid=300.
I tried sending the files in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins to the Recycle Bin but that didn't work, so I restored the files to that folder. Then I did some tests with www.wgcshop.com which ReconNinja (from this thread) provided--to find what was causing the plugin error.
Here is what you need to do with Mozilla Firefox browser in Windows XP to remove this annoying plugin error:
1. Go to www.wgcshop.com and wait for the plugin error. Then on the left side of the screen where the list is, right click on the menu list then look at the bottom of the popup white box. It should show "About Macromedia Flash Player 8..." (and that's where the problem comes from)
2. Find and download the uninstaller for Macromedia Flash Player 8 at http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowl ... r_tn_14157 (download the correct one for the operating system you are using)--also, if link's dead, find an uninstaller that is specifically made for Macromedia Flash Player 8.
3. Close browser windows then run the Macromedia Flash Player 8 uninstaller.
4. You may get stuck at 93% uninstall while it's searching for browser windows to shut down. When that happens, open Task Manager and kill off "killbro~.exe" (which doesn't matter because it's just looking for browser windows that aren't even there). Wait for uninstall to complete. Then end the gcff.tmp (sp?) and uninstall_flash_player.exe (sp?) processes in Task Manager.
4. Download the appropriate Macromedia Flash Player 7 installer from http://infogenix.com/links/download_flash_player.html
5. Install Macromedia Flash Player 7.
6. Open Firefox browser, go to http://www.wgcshop.com/. See if the error message comes up again. It should be gone. That wasn't so hard after all, was it?
Congratulations to Kevin for having the right idea of how to resolve this problem. It's probably the best workaround solution for now.
This worked like a charm. Thank you so much!!!

It's a bad rap and Mozilla code is not at fault here, as far as I can tell from the descriptions.
If you want to fix it, contact the SWF people or uninstall the plugin. If a plugin crashes, it's an error in the plugin, not in Firefox. There is one possible loophole: if you are interfering with SWF by using FlashBlock, etc., you might be able to argue that the problem is not in Flash. Either way, it's still not a Firefox problem, except insofar as you need to block it or remove it as a plugin.

sudden shockwave flash error on mozilla firefox
if you get this message suddenly on firefox:
The plug-in performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Firefox.
( ) Don't show this message again during this session.
there's one simple way to get rid of this.
after deinstaling and reinstalling firefox browser 10x and adobe acrobat reader (don'te even think about it, it is such a pain) and installing new shock waves....nothing helped.
but all i had to do was do is download the appropriate Macromedia Flash Player 7 installer from http://infogenix.com/links/download_flash_player.html and the problem is solved. I cannot deinstall Flash Player 8 for the love of god, it stopped at 93% and task manager couldn't find killbrowswer.exe, so it was unsuccessful, so i don't know if the flash player 7 now overrrides the 8 but the error is now gone from the browser. hopefully this will stand for awhile...if i wake up tomorrow and the problem is back, i'll really....

That's an outdated insecure version of Flash7. Get the updated Flash 7 versionhere (you want the "Netscape" download, flashplayer7r63_win.exe) which is linked from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Windows_and_Mac

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Uninstalling_Flash
An uninstaller can be downloaded to remove Flash from your system. See the Flash Player TechNote, How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control. After downloading, make sure you completely exit your Mozilla application or other Internet browser before you run the uninstaller.
On Windows systems, the Flash uninstaller may hang at 93% completion. To finish the uninstall, open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), click the "Processes" tab, select "killbrowser.exe", click <End> and say "yes" to the resulting dialog box

It seems my problem is different...all of you have it when you start it. my problem lies when i close it. or try to view a video of some sort. Like from http://www.youtube.com . Im watching a video, its uploading, i let it load for a while. then when i see the red bar is 3/4 of the way, i start the video. The video goes to 0:03 and then freezes... then when i try to open another mozilla that freezes too, so i close them both, and then it tells me the note "Illegal Operation in Plug-in". Can anyone help me please? it's getting VERY irritating.

Did you already try: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Illegal ... In_Plug-In
Removing the files "GetFlash.exe" and "GetFlash.exe.manifest" from the browser's installation directory plugins folder may stop the errors

thanks, and I just tried it, but it seems that the npmozax.dll file isn't there.
[Edit]: 09/23/06 - 11;07 - just tried the above method: remove "Getflash.exe" and the other one "GetFlash.exe.manifest" still same little message. the vid freezes at 0:03 and when i try to exit it gives me the annoying plugin error thing.

Did you uninstall your current Flash version and download/install Flash 7? That was the third suggestion given in dickvl's link, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Illegal ... In_Plug-In
