OK, this technicallychallenged Guess back
Hope what I've done is ok!
From AZ Firewall I went to Program Control, found Mozilla, right clicked and checked the box which said:
this program may use other programs to access the internet.
Now Mozilla works
Thank you so much for persevering by saying its probably a Firewall problem. But have I changed something that I shouldn't have?!?

@Last guest: I don't know what that option means. I meant that you should remove this entry. Your firewall will redetect FF on its next try to access the net and readd it to the list.

OK trolly, we're in business. I know what you meant but it didn't work for me until I tried a few things.
I've now unchecked that box again and Mozilla is still working.
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I first tried to remove Firefox from my trusted list in my Firewall, but each time I went back to the Firewall it was back on the list again. So I right clicked Firefox and checked the box 'this program may use other programs to access the internet' and re-booted. My Firewall asked me if Firefox could access the internet. Then I unchecked the box again. It seems to be working and I've re-booted again since.
My Firewall is CA eTrust EZ

It's a great day when I actually SOLVE a problem. I had the same problems as above when I installed 1.5.0.2 and after several unsuccessful tries, I succeeded by manually reconfiguring my Norton Firewall, as suggested. I found several firefox.exe entries, including one that said Block. I eliminated all but one (not caring if the one remaining was 1.5.0.2 or 1.5.0.1, and lo and behold, it's 1.5.0.1 and it works, and that's not all!!! the horrific problems that I've been having with Flash Player refusing to work in Firefox has been fixed!!!

Thanks for reporting. I never heard of flash problems due to multiple entries in NIS.

Not being able to connect can be caused by many things, and it's really hard to provide support to more than one person at once, especially when people aren't entering user names. So I'm going to lock this thread. Anyone who is having problems should read the solutions provided here and elsewhere, and if the problem isn't solved, start a new thread instead of tacking onto an existing one.
