Did you unpack the Uninstaller and run the .exe file to uninstall Firefox?

leafgreen,
I figured you probably did. Sorry it didn't work for you. You can just delete the FX program directory and then run a registry cleaner to clean up any left over RegKeys. That's what I was doing until I came across the Uninstallers.

L.A.R. Grizzly,
Was wondering if it made a difference that you were uninstalling Bon Echo (Firefox 2.0) when you used the nightly/latest-mozilla1.8 uninstaller, as there is also an UninstallFirefox.zip for Firefox 1.5.0.x versions in the nightly/latest-mozilla1.8.0/windows-xpi folder.
In any case, if anyone just wants to uninstall Firefox prior to doing a clean reinstall, I don't think a registry cleanup is needed. I would just follow the rest of the uninstall instructions here:

Alice,
Might be, but when I ran the Uninstaller, it asked me if I wanted to uninstall FX 1.5. Well, anyway it works on BonEcho. Anyone else might want to try the other version in your post for 1.5.x versions. Maybe it'll work for them as well. I edited my posts to reflect the different versions. Thanx!

Be careful with these uninstallers!
I downloaded the Firefox 1.5x Uninstaller by clicking on the Direct Link to the Firefox 1.5x Uninstaller Zip File above. I had both Firefox 1.0.8 and 1.5.0.3 installed. Neither was running. When I ran the Uninstaller, it asked me to confirm that I wanted to uninstall Firefox 1.0.8!

Just to be clear, did you already try this?
If that didn't work, what happens when you try to do it?

Yup my hunch was right. It was the uninstaller app itself. When I installed
Firefox 1.5.0.1 on another Win9x machine, the un-installer for that version of
Firefox (UninstallFirefox.exe) worked correctly. when I installed FF 1.5.0.2
or 1.5.0.3, they use a different un-installer (uninstall.exe) which did nothing
and froze on a 9xME machine. Good thing I copied the old uninstaller file
[UninstallFirefox.exe] from the other 9x computer and placed it in the
'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall' folder on my WinME machine. Then
I ran UninstallFirefox.exe instead of uninstall.exe to remove FF 1.5.0.2 and it
worked. there were no corrupted registry settings on my Windows ME computer.
FF 1.5.0.2 and 1.5.0.3 just came with a bad un-installer. maybe the older
uninstaller [UninstallFirefox.exe] should be included in FF 1.5.0.4 since that
one seem to work correctly on all 32bit versions of Windows including the 9x
versions.

uninstalling Firefox
I also had awful trouble uninstalling this latest version. Control Panel + Add/Remove just did not work at all. I solved it by booting my computer into Safe Mode and then going back to Add Remove. After that I cleaned up the debris left behind with Registry Mechanic which always does a brilliant job. Hope this helps

Thanks for the information!
I ran across that solution (booting into Windows safe mode to get the uninstaller to work) when looking through bugzilla. See:

uninstaller hangs waiting for parent process to disappear
