Inability to send outgoing e-mail messages using Earthlink

Post by Chris L »

I have Windows 98 with Mozilla Firebird 0.7 as my default browser. My internet service provider is Earthlink TotalAccess via cable modem. I use Earthlink's e-mail program (Earthlink TotalAccess - MailBox) as my default e-mail program.

I have no problems checking and viewing incoming e-mail. However, every time I attempt to reply to an e-mail or send a new one, I get a "Mailclnt" error message stating that "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." When I hit the "Details>>" button, I get the following explanation (which, regrettably, is beyond my relatively limited computer expertise):

"MAILCLNT caused an invalid page fault in
module MAILDOC.DLL at 017f:6080acf2.

Any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it? Earthlink's telephone customer service personnel were totally unhelpful. There only suggestion was to use a different internet browser. But I really love Firebird! And I also like Earthlink TotalAccess e-mail. Interestingly, I can still send and reply to messages by accessing my e-mail as WebMail (e.g. through www.earthlink.net), but that is pretty inconvenient. Hopefully somebody out there can help me find a solution that allows me to continue to use Firebird as my sole internet browser while also being able to send and receive e-mail through Earthlink TotalAccess. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sincerely,
Chris L

Does this email client depend on the web browser, or is it an independent application?

It's an independent application. Probably not a Firebird-related problem, but I just wanted to see if anybody had a possible solution.
