How to set file handling for plugins / MIME support

Since the "things they left out"-extension is broken at the moment, is there any way to tell the plugin which kind of files it should handle? Especially for the real-plugin which just acknowledges rpm-files and no other real media format.

The browser reacts to MIME types, if the correct MIME is sent by the server, the plugin should be activated automatically anyway without the need for this extension. If I misunderstand your problem, my apologies.

When I go to amazon and want to preview some songs, the real player isn't opened but the file save box pops up - shouldn't the real plugin play the song or at least start the real player? (btw. Linux/FB 0.7)
