startup

Post by bgo »

I'm looking for info on how to keep the Firebird browser page from starting upon intial booting of the system. I have opened the msconfig startup screen and unchecked the Firebird box, but it still opens when the system boots.

Using Win 98SE

Thanks

are you saying that firebird is opened at start-up?

Yes. The Firebird opens with a blank page at bootup and without connection to my dialup ISP. When I go ahead and connect to my ISP, my homepage (set for Google) comes up.

Thanks

Look in startup directory?

No idea where it's at on 9x, but it should have shortcuts under Start > Programs > Startup.

If that fails, Start > Run > "Msconfig" and look for a box to uncheck.

I've gone through the start/run/msconfig/startup and unchecked the appropriate box. If I close all that out and go back to it without rebooting, the box is still unchecked. But after I reboot firebird starts up again automatically. So I go back to the the startup screen and the Firebird box is checked for startup.

Thanks for the responses

Followed your suggestion. Firebird was in there, deleted it and solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

On another issue. My hourglass and cursor keeps blinking during a download, but only with my Mozilla/Firebird browser. Is this common?

Thanks

What sort of hardware do you have?

I have no idea why this would happen, unless you have an insanely slow machine.

You might have spyware that is trying to load up some ad page when you boot.

Processor is 700mhz pentium III, FSB 100, 383 ram. Not the fastest but it doesn't seem too slow. I did run a spyware cleaner and nothing showed up. The blinking isn't a big thing, love this browser.

700MHz is tons of power. Hmm.

Pretty odd. :P Extract firebird to a new directory, start it up and see if this happens? Do you have lotsa extensions installed?

Three extensions total. Two of them are enabled. It does the same thing on my 1.5 Mozilla as well. I've unistalled and reinstalled, can't figure this one out. Starting to think it's something in this machine.

Thanks a lot
